Joan Talbot & Jazz Gazette
Add to Calendar
Joining the inimitable Joan Talbot this year will be Strabane based “Jazz Gazette”.
Jazz Gazette were formed by Gerard Bradley and Ian McGowan in the early 80’s.
The original line up included Michael Canavan Sax, Mark Bradley aged 14 trpt, Ronan Doherty Trombone Gerard Bradley Piano, Ian McGowan guitar, Peter Doherty Bass and Joe Gillespie Drums. They brought the sound of Jazz to Strabane and Letterkenny.
Although they gigged the length and breadth of Ireland they originally had residences in the Fir Trees Hotel Strabane and were frequently heard in McGinley’s Letterkenny and The Bridge Bar Ramelton.
Over recent years Mark, Pete, Aidan and Gerard have been gigging regularly with various jazz combos. They have also all played in the ‘Rat Pack’ orchestra which included sell out performances in Irelands major venues. This led to a successful spell in Belfast where for the past three years the lads have been the mainstay of the ‘Martin John Simply Swing Big Band’.
Joan Talbot from Dublin is well known on the Jazz scene both in the North and South of Ireland . She previously sang with the “Big Jim Farrelly Band” and with the late “Phil Cole Big Band” performing for many years in the Cork Jazz Festival.
Duo gigs with the likes of world renowned guitarist Esmond Selwyn and Derry’s own Gay McIntyre eventually saw her team up with Jazz Gazztte, and for the past 7 years she has enjoyed performing with them for various festivals throughout Ireland including Derry, Doonbeg, Limavady, Dunfanaghy and Letterkenny.
With a mix of jazz standards , swing & blues, you’re in for a treat. Don’t miss it !
